Our Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote the love of and the making of dolls, primarily in Cloth but not limited to them.

Goal

To have fun with dolls, share an interest in doll making, increase doll making skills, promote friendship among members and guests, and network with other doll makers across the country.

Activities

Newsletter: dues entitle you to a monthly newsletter.

Enrichment Programs: at our monthly meetings, there are scheduled activities or demonstrations of doll related techniques.

Show & Tell: during each meeting there is a time set aside for everyone to share their recent dolls and doll related items.

White Elephant Raffle: at each meeting, members bring doll related items to contribute   to our raffle. Tickets are on sale throughout the meeting for 25¢ or 5 for $1.00. There is a theme for each raffle that is announced in the newsletter prior to the meeting.

Doll Raffle: each month, one of our doll club members donates a handmade doll or basket of items to make a doll for our Doll Raffle. Tickets cost $1.00.

Name Tags: each new member will be given a name tag and a pattern of our Doll-Emma   Doll pin. For those of us who are getting forgetful, this is necessary, so we know   who everybody is. Those choosing to remain anonymous pay a $1.00 fee to do so.

 Challenge Dolls

A theme, pattern, or fabric is chosen and club members make a doll related to that theme or pattern. Dates are given for when the dolls are due. Participation is voluntary, and it is a fun way to express your creativity and share in the fun.

To start 2006 off right, we are starting an "Altered Doll" challenge in January.

 Traveling Friendship Dolls

A theme is selected for the friendship doll. The participating doll makers make a naked cloth doll and bring it to the designated meeting in a paper bag. Diaries and disposable cameras are added to the bags and the travels begin. Each month you receive a new doll to add the designated item to the doll. It begins with a face, then underwear, outer wear, the hair and finally accessories. At the end of the six months of travels, your doll comes home to you for the reading of their travels and for show and tell. The results are just amazing.

                                        Classes

Throughout the year, the Doll-Emmas sponsor classes from outside teachers. As a member, you have priority for sign-ups and prices for these classes are at a discounted rate.

                             Doll Shows & Exhibits

Every Spring, the members of the Club help to host the Cloth Doll Exhibit at the "Best of the Valley" Show in Tulare, California. Every even year, the Doll-Emmas in conjunction with the San Joaquin Valley Quilters Guild put on a quilt & doll show. We also set up exhibits at other doll shows and libraries throughout California.     Manteca Quilt and Doll Show and the Flying Phoebe Doll Show are just two that we participate in.

                               Library Books

The club has a small but extensive library of video tapes and books on doll making and things related to doll making. Membership gives you the ability to check out these items.

                          Secret Santa's

At the November meeting, names are drawn to be a Secret Santa. An item is made for the person you draw and will be given out at the December Holiday Party where your identity will also be revealed. This has been great fun for all who participate.
